BOYDS, Md. – The Washington Spirit Reserves begin their W-League season this Sunday and take on the Atlanta Silverbacks (1-1) at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Md.

The Spirit look to start the season off with many returning players from the 2014, first-place team. The Spirit’s 10-0-2 record in the Northeastern Conference last season gives them a strong base to continue forward with. Maddie Huster and Amber Stobbs make it their main priority to win the regular season and go to nationals and win it all.

The 2014 championship finalists look to be just as threatening in the attacking in their new conference this season. With a new list of teams in the Southeastern Conference, the Spirit expect the same outcomes and will strive for similar success this year.

All are new teams for the Spirit this season, aside from the matchup against the Braddock Road Stars Elite in the playoffs in 2014. The Spirit came out on top 3-1 while both teams had to fight the heat and humidity in Woodbridge, Va.

The Silverbacks are coming off a rough season with only one win and 11 goals in 10 games in 2014. The former W-League powerhouses from 2007-11 have yet to reach the playoffs since that 2011 campaign and look to rebound this season with the help of Florida State standout Cheyna Williams and Georgia’s Gabby Seiler returning from last season; Williams with 14 goals and six assists for the Seminoles, and Seiler with nine goals and nine assists for the Bulldogs last season, respectfully.
