PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – The Pali Blues Soccer Club (6-0-3) finished their regular season away schedule with a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Legends (1-6-2). After an exciting and high scoring first half of play, the Blues held on to get the victory.
“It ended up being a good win,” stated Blues Head Coach Charlie Naimo. “I thought we played well in the second half, but we need to put 90 minutes together.”
Blues forward Iris Mora was the first to get in on the scoring action in the 11th minute. Midfielder Nikki Washington chased down a ball on the left side and crossed it to Mora, who settled it and slotted the ball past Legends goalkeeper Alicia Lugo. Just two minutes later, Pali struck again as Mora found a cutting Kelley O’Hara, who put in the Blues second goal of the evening.
The Legends battled back to equalize the game. In the 19th minute, Jocelyn Charette jumped on a bad clearance and tapped the ball over to Charney Burke, who put one past Blues goalkeeper Joslyn Slovek. Then, in the 27th minute, Legends forward Jamie Bell, who had been dangerous all half, scored off of a cross from Charette.
The scoring in the half was not done as Christen Press and Washington connected for the Blues, with Washington putting the ball in the back of the net in the 38th minute.
The teams went into halftime with a 3-2 lead for the Blues. Although the score would not change, the Blues defense tightened up and Pali had most of the goal scoring opportunities in the half.
Naimo hopes this momentum will carry over to the next home game. “Sunday’s another day and hopefully we’ll get a goal for the Teddy Bear Toss.”
The Pali Blues return to Pali High’s Stadium-by-the-Sea to take on the Ventura County Fusion this Sunday, July 5 at 1PM. The Blues are also presenting their First Annual Teddy Bear Toss. For more information or to order tickets, call (310) 264-4649.
