Wednesday, May 2, 2012

- Australian women’s national team member Brooke Spence and former Washington Freedom goalkeeper Lauren Robertson have joined the Colorado Rapids Women for the 2012 W-League Season - pending USSF and USL approval.

Spence is coming off a successful season with Brisbane Roar who progressed to the Australian W-League championship game, losing to Canberra United in a tightly contested match. Spence is no stranger to success having won the Australian W-League title with Brisbane Roar in 2010/2011. Spence has earned 19 caps with the Australian National team and will bring a wealth of experience to the Colorado Rapids squad.

Brisbane Roar FC Head Coach Jeff Hopkins was full of praise for his defender in joining the Colorado Rapids Women.

“Brooke has already achieved a great deal in her career in the Australian W-League including championship medals and international caps but she is always looking to improve all aspects of her game and I am sure Brooke will be a huge boost to the Rapids and will make a real impact."

The Colorado Rapids Women are also excited to announce the signing of former Ohio State University and Washington Freedom goalkeeper Lauren "Taz" Robertson. Robertson had a career Goals Against Average (GAA) of just 1.03 while in college, ranking her second all-time at Ohio State. Robertson was drafted by the Washingtond Freedom in the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer draft. Robertson has also played for the Rochester Rhinos and the Colorado Force in the USL W-League.

The Rapids Women open their 2012 W-League campaign on Saturday, May 26 at 6:30pm ET against the Victoria Highlanders at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. For ticket information please visit
