Central SC Battles FC Jax To 1-1 Draw
Parker scores to earn point in home opener

Central SC Cobras News Release --

Sunday, May 20, 2012

- The Central SC Cobras came from behind to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the FC Jax Destroyers on Sunday afternoon. In their first-ever home game in club history Central SC’s Taylor Parker earned her side a point scoring past Samantha Millspaugh after FC Jax had taken the lead just five minutes earlier.

The first 15 minutes of the game were dominated by the SC Cobras controlling the majority of possession in the Destroyers defensive backfield.  The FC JAX defense held strong, stifling one Cobra opportunity after another.

In the 15th minute, JAX’s forward Sam Scalf was given a yellow card for a hard foul on a Destroyers counter attack.  As the game carried on through the middle minutes in the first half, the field began to open up and both teams began to settle into their game plans.

In the 25th minute on a through ball from the center midfield, Stefani Patterson of the Destroyers held off a sliding defender and finished on a one touch shot just out of Reuter’s diving reach.

The Destroyers’ lead was short lived when in the 30th minute, Cobras’ Tabitha Padgett played Taylor Parker a beautiful ball into the stride of Parkers’ diagonal run across the top of the Detroyers’ box.  With unbelievable composure, Parker slid the ball back across the goal finding the far-post side-netting. After the equalizer, the Cobras continued to connect with the post and crossbar, failing to finish on keen counter attack opportunities.

At half-time, the Cobras outshot FC Jax by a count of 13-2 forcing FC Jax goalkeeper Samantha Millspaugh to make six saves.

The second half was a much more balanced attack for both teams.  The SC Cobras continued to pressure the Destroyers defense firing off another nine shots, three of them on frame.  Goalkeeper Erin Moseley, who had replaced Millspaugh at half, was up for the challenge. The Destroyers fired off 3 shots in the second half which were easily handled by the Cobras.

After a hard tackle in the 53rd minute Tabitha Padgett (SC Cobras) was given a yellow card in what had become a very physical half.  The Cobras mounted a couple opportunities in the closing minutes including an indirect free kick inside the penalty area that ended with a shot missed just high and wide.

The Cobras’ final opportunity came in stoppage time off a freekick from 25 yards out.  Moseley put up a good fight and punched out of harms way.  The 1-1 tie remained when the final whistle blew.
