Rochester Ravens News Release -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rochester Ravens will welcome the Laval Comets to town Saturday, marking the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Ravens are hoping this will be a game of firsts and a day to end streaks for both teams, as they are still searching for their first points of the season and can earn them by handing the Comets their first loss of the season.

Laval (2-0-2) sits fourth in the W-League's Central Conference, four points behind leader Ottawa but with a game in hand. The game at the Wegmans Sports Complex at the Aquinas Institutewill begin at 5 p.m. with all individual game tickets at $5.

Laval began the season by playing to 0-0 and 1-1 draws against the London Gryphons and Toronto Lady Lynx, respectively. Since then, however, the Comets have been one of the Central Division’s hottest teams and will come into Aquinas on a two-game winning streak including their most recent game, an impressive 3-0 victory in their second meeting with Toronto.

Through four games this year, Laval has an impressive six goals for, although what may be even more impressive is that eight different Comet players have found the score sheet and earned at least a point. Coming into the game the Ravens will need to focus on staying with their marks and shutting down the Laval offense as a unit while paying extra attention to the striker duo of forwards Catherine Charron-Delage (1G, 2A) and Caroline Beaulne (2G) who lead the team.

On the other side of the ball, Laval’s defensive core has stood tall against almost every challenge it has faced en route to tying for the league lead in goals against with two. Goalkeeper Valerie Labee, who has started in three of the first four matches, has only allowed one goal and has two clean sheets while making a total of 13 saves this year.

The Rochester Ravens have begun the 2012 season with a 0-6-0 record and 0 points; however have they seen progress and continued growth through each contest. They currently sit last in the conference out of seven teams. Leading the way for the Ravens are forwards Brianna Smith, who scored the season's lone goal earlier in the month against Toronto, and Bella Mitrevski who earned the assist.

Tonight’s matchup will prove to be a fierce of contest as the Ravens battle for their first points of the season and fight to keep their slimming playoff hopes alive while Laval looks to remain the only unbeaten team in the Central Division and propel itself to the top of the standings.
