CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Lady Eagles are the W-League Southeast Division champions after squeezing by the Atlanta Silverbacks 1-0 this past Saturday. Michelle Moll's lone goal will send the Lady Eagles to the nation's capital this weekend for the W-League's Eastern Conference Championship tournament.
The Lady Eagles will represent the Southeast Division as the #2 seed in the tournament, being held at the Maryland SportsPlex in Boyds, Maryland.
Their first test will be the semifinals on Saturday, a rematch of the 2011 semifinal game against the Long Island Rough Riders, the Northeast Division champions. The Lady Eagles were able to beat the Rough Riders 2-1 last year and move on to the conference championship game, where they lost to Atlanta.
The Rough Riders, with a record of 9-3-0, will do their best to exact revenge for last year's loss.
If the Lady Eagles are successful they will play the winner of the D.C. United Women vs. the Virginia Beach Piranhas game on Sunday afternoon for the Eastern Conference Championship.
The 2012 W-League Championship will take place in Ottawa, Ontario the weekend of July 27-29.
The Lady Eagles would like to thank all their supporters, fans and sponsors for making the 2012 season a success, and a special thanks to Harris Teeter, the team's feature sponsor, for partnering with the Lady Eagles.
