Teams face off in rematch of 2011 conference semifinal

- The Long Island Rough Riders defeated the North Jersey Valkyries 1-0 last Saturday and, in doing so, booked their place in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Rough Riders (9-3-0) have now advanced to the W-League playoffs in two consecutive years and are ready to face the Charlotte Lady Eagles on Saturday. 

On Tuesday, the W-League announced the schedule for its three Conference Championships, with the Quebec City Amiral, D.C. United Women and Pali Blues set to host the action beginning this Saturday, July 21. 

The Eastern Conference Semifinals will see the Northeast Division Champion and #3 seed Long Island Rough Riders (9-3-0) facing the Southeast Division Champion and #2 seed Charlotte Lady Eagles (9-1-2)  in the first matchup at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The Rough Riders have a lot to be proud of this season, including honors for Rough Riders forward Grace Hawkins who captured both the Scoring Champion and Goal Scoring Champion titles by virtue of her 17 goals and four assists for 38 points in 12 games played.   

The Charlotte Lady Eagles won the W-League Southeast Division after squeezing by the Atlanta Silverbacks 1-0 last weekend.  Saturday's semifinal will be a rematch of the 2011 semifinal game and Long Island will is out for revenge. The Lady Eagles were able to beat the Rough Riders 2-1 last year and move on to the conference championship game, where they lost to Atlanta.

If the Rough Riders are successful on Saturday they will play the winner of the D.C. United Women vs. the Virginia Beach Piranhas game on Sunday afternoon for the Eastern Conference Championship.

The 2012 W-League Championship will take place in Ottawa, Ontario the weekend of July 27-29. 

"The Women’s Team has worked hard to earn the [Northeast] division title and get to the playoffs,"  said Long Island Rough Riders Vice President Flavio Ferri. "This is an opportunity to compete against the top teams in the [Eastern] conference and advance to the national finals."
