UCLA senior Zakiya Bywaters, who played for the LA Strikers this past summer, scored three goals - including a pair of game-winners - in wins against Arizona and Arizona State to earn PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Week
honors and lead the roll call of W-League alums getting the job done for their college teams.
Bywaters scored both of UCLA’s goals in a 2-1 win against Arizona on Friday and struck the game-winner against Arizona State on Monday. She leads the Pac-12 in scoring with nine goals and 20 points, both career highs, and is tied for the conference lead with four game-winning goals.
William & Mary’s Cortlyn Bristol, a 2011 member of the Fredericksburg Impact, struck for a pair of game-winners this past week to earn Colonial Athletic association Player of the Week
honors. Bristol broke a scoreless tie with a goal from 18 yards out in the 60th minute in a 1-0 victory at George Mason. At Towson, the senior forward had a goal and an assist in the opening 18 minutes as the Tribe rolled past the Tigers, 5-0. For the season, Bristol has four goals and six assists.
New Jersey Wildcats standout Maya Hayes was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
for the second consecutive week after the Penn State junior tallied three goals in victories against Ohio State (3-0) and Minnesota (4-3) this past weekend. Hayes recorded 12 shots on goal in the two games for the No. 8 Nittany Lions to earn the sixth weekly award of her career.
Sharing in the Big Ten honors was Iowa goalkeeper Hannah Clark, who spent 2011 and 2012 with the Colorado Rapids Women. Clark was named Co-Defensive Player and Co-Freshman of the Week after not allowing a goal in 130 minutes of action for the Hawkeyes this past weekend. She tallied 11 total saves in two games, including seven against No. 22 Michigan.
Cal State Northridge senior Cynthia Jacobo claimed her third Big West Defensive Player of the Week
award this season as she allowed one goal in 200 minutes of action in net. The Santa Clarita Blue Heat star made three saves and yielded her only goal of the week in a 1-1 draw on the road against No. 21 Portland.
In the Big West opener against Hawaii, Jacobo recorded her Big West-leading fifth shutout in a 2-0 triumph. For the week, Jacobo posted a .857 save percentage with a 0.45 goals-against average. Her 21 career shutouts place her among the Big West top 10 of all time.
The Hamilton Rage’s Christabel Oduro, a 2011 All-Central Conference selection, was tabbed as Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
after the Memphis junior scored two goals and added three assists in wins against East Carolina and Marshall. Oduro notched the game-winning goal in the 2-0 victory against ECU Friday. Sunday against Marshall, Oduro notched three assists while adding her eighth goal. With seven points during the weekend, Oduro moved into sole possession of fifth place on the Memphis all-time scoring list with 74 points in her career.
Both Oduro and Hayes were included in the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week
, along with Florida State goalkeeper Kelsey Wys (2010 Colorado Rush), who recorded seven saves in a shutout win against North Carolina and helped the top-ranked Seminoles to two victories.
