TAMPA, Fla. –
It was a good week for the Toronto Lady Lynx, who saw a trio of former standouts earn weekly honors for their NCAA performances. Leading the way was forward Ashley Campbell, who was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
for the second time in 2012 after totaling three goals and two assists for Dayton this past weekend, including a career-high five points in a 3-0 win against St. Bonaventure Friday.
The Bradford, Ontario, midfielder tallied her ninth and 10th goals of the season and added an assist in the Flyers’ shutout against the Bonnies. In Sunday’s 4-0 win against Duquesne, Campbell scored a goal and added an assist. Campbell is tied for second overall in the A-10 with 11 goals - including four game-winners - and is third overall in points (25).
Tiffany Cameron starred for the Lady Lynx from 2009-11, and the Ohio State forward earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
honors after she tallied eight points on four goals in the Buckeyes’ victories against No. 17 Michigan (3-1) and Michigan State (3-1) this past weekend. In the process, Cameron set Ohio State’s single-season goals record (14) and recorded her eighth game-winning goal.
Cathryn Rogers, a teammate of Campbell’s in Toronto in 2012, had a fantastic week for Ohio University, scoring both of the Bobcats’ goals in an important weekend of conference matches to be named MAC Offensive Player of the Week
. The senior scored her sixth goal of the season and the 12th of her career in a 2-1 loss against Toledo on Friday night, putting the Bobcats back in the match in the 27th minute after trailing 2-0 early. She then scored the game-winning goal in a crucial 1-0 victory against Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon. The native of Etobicoke, Ontario, fired a tremendous shot from 30 yards out to give Ohio the win.
Cal State Northridge senior Melissa Fernandez, a 2012 member of the LA Strikers, enjoyed a thrilling home send-off as a pair of game-winning goals earned her Big West Offensive Player of the Week
honors. In her final collegiate matches at Matador Soccer Field, Fernandez tallied the game-winning goals in CSUN victories against Pacific (6-1) and UC Davis (1-0). The midfielder scored twice in the 6-1 win against the Tigers, and in Sunday's Senior Day win against the Aggies, Fernandez accounted for the only goal of the match to give her three for the weekend. She leads the Matadors with six goals, five assists and 17 points this season.
Also playing in her final home match, Saint Peter’s goalkeeper Caitlin Hoffer helped guide the Peacocks to a 2-1 victory against defending MAAC champion Marist College to earn MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors
. Hoffer, a two-year member of the New York Magic, came up with a career-high 17 saves in the double-overtime match. Hoffer also assisted on the game-winning goal with 49 seconds remaining in the second overtime, as she sent a punt past midfield to teammate Emily Fenice, who found the net. In the Peacocks' hard-fought 2-0 loss against Siena, Hoffer also came up with double-digit saves, finishing the match with 12.
Former Connecticut Passion goalkeeper Jami Kranich earned Big East Goalkeeper of the Week
honors after totaling five saves in a 1-0-0 week. The junior had four of her five stops in the second half as Villanova upset No. 12 Georgetown on Friday. Kranich anchored the VU defense that kept the nation’s 11th-ranked offense scoreless. It was the team’s first win against Georgetown since 2007.
