First meeting resulted in 2-0 LA victory

LOS ANGELES – The Pali Blues (6-1-1) are set to play the LA Strikers (4-4-0) for the second time for a chance to avenge the 2-0 loss to open the season. It remains the only loss for the Blues this season and the team looks forward to getting even against its crosstown foe.

The Blues have gone on an undefeated streak since the loss against the Strikers, outscoring opponents 22-3. Most recently, the Blues returned from Seattle with a convincing 3-0 win against the Sounders, who lead the Western Conference with 20 points. Pali sits in second place with 19 points and one more match to play than the Sounders. Pali has an opportunity to end the regular season on top and host the Western Conference playoff match.

The Strikers have earned inconsistent results since the season-opener, winning three other matches while losing four. Their last match, against the visiting Santa Clarita Blue Heat, ended 2-1 in their favor with Kristy Moore and Tanya Samarzich providing the goals.

A win for Pali on Saturday will officially knock the Strikers out of the playoff race, while any other result will keep them in it. Three points for Pali will also mean that the Western Conference playoff match will be against the Sounders, with hosting rights to be determined by the standings at the end of the regular season.

This crucial match will begin at 5:30 p.m. PT at the StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium. Fans can follow @PaliBlues and @LAStrikersFC on twitter for updates.
