FAIRFAX, Va. – The Braddock Road Stars Elite earned their second victory of the season as they defeated the Long Island Rough Riders on Saturday night at Samuel J. Coffey Stadium. The victory allowed the Stars Elite to pull even in the standings with Long Island and North Jersey as Marisa Park had a goal and two assists, and Allie Wisner a goal and an assist.

The Stars Elite jumped out to an early lead in the eighth minute when Park drove into the penalty area and played a ball across the box to a waiting Wisner to finish. The home side did not relax after gaining an early lead and kept possession well; the Rough Riders were only able to register one shot in the first half. Park doubled the lead for Braddock Road in the 25th minute as she got on the end of a cross from fellow Wake Forest alum Kristen Meier.

Long Island was under pressure again early in the second half and misplayed a dangerous ball played into the box which resulted in an own goal, but the Rough Riders did not quit battling after falling three goalsdown, and Sue Weber put her team on the board with a well-placed strike from the corner of the penalty area to make it 3-1 with just over 20 minutes to go.

Despite the fighting spirit of the Rough Riders, Weber’s strike was not enough to turn the tide. The Stars Elite attack proved too much for the Rough Riders defense, and scored twice in four minutes to put the game out of reach. Park was in the giving mood again in the 75th minute as she found Jen Boyles, who finished well for her first goal of the season. Three minutes later, Wisner headed a cross, and the ball took a fortunate bounce to Stephanie Hamilton who was in good position to finish with a first time shot to make it 5-1.

The Stars Elite (2-5-1) now sit four points behind the second-placed New Jersey Wildcats with four game remaining in the season. Braddock Road will try to narrow that gap on Wednesday night when it travels to take on the North Jersey Valkyries (1-2-4) at DePaul Catholic High Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
