ATLANTA, Georgia – The Atlanta Silverbacks women’s soccer team will travel to take on the Carolina Elite Cobras on Thursday night.
The Silverbacks (1-7-0) fell in a heartbreaker to Gulf Coast this past weekend 3-2 in stoppage time. Atlanta fell behind early against the Texans, but goals from Kayla Johnson and Grace Damaska tied the match early in the second half, only for Gulf Coast to grab a stoppage-time winner through Dernelle Mascall.
This week, the Silverbacks will look to build on the momentum gained in Pensacola against the Carolina Elite Cobras (4-1-3) The last time these two teams met, Carolina defeated Atlanta 2-1 on May 30 at Silverbacks Park.
In the first meeting between the two sides, Savannah McCaskill scored right before halftime and Stephanie Devita put the match out of reach in the 83rd minute. Atlanta’s Becky Van Horn was able to find the back of the net in stoppage time but the Silverbacks were unable to equalize before the final whistle.
Recently, the Elite Cobras drew their last match against Charlotte 1-1 this past Saturday. Carolina is currently tied for first place in the Southeastern Conference with Charlotte but is behind the Lady Eagles on goals scored. Forward India Trotter leads the squad in points (8) and goals scored (3). She is tied with McCaskill in shots taken (19).
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the MESA Soccer Complex in Greer, S.C.
